Summer Break is here and there are so many things that you can look forward to for the next two to three months. We have so many summer break lovers and everyone is attracted to different things for enjoyment. Some might like to take this time to study a little further and prepare for the next term. While others would enjoy the outdoors with friends or go on a solo trip. Then again there are some who would take out the time to get in touch with their family and participate in activities and games that their family can enjoy together. So, we have outlined some of the activities that you can enjoy no matter which category you fall under.
1. Keep On Learning!

Summer stretches for two to three months. You might enjoy the beaches and outdoor activities for a while but after a few weeks, you might just want to cool off to something that would help you out in your studies further. If this is who you are then the following activities would interest you.
- Get into Summer School
Nothing like getting into a summer school to prepare better for the coming college term. You can apply to professional courses that can not only aid you in your assignments for the holidays but also prepare you well for the upcoming term. You can find more leads on different courses, mentorship, internships, and find friends who are also interested in studying in the summer break by publishing a post on Alumni Alliances.
- Learning a New Skill
Learning doesn’t stop at taking tuitions or professional courses. How about learning a different skill? Taking guitar or music lessons can be cool. Or maybe some other recreational activities such as theatre, poetry or mime? You can always expand this bracket with learning a new sport or polish your culinary skills! These are not only new skills but also fun activities.
- Create a website or do Web Publishing
You can always enjoy the summer holidays by creating a website. With so many free website templates available online, it has become easier to create a website and publish photos, videos or writings. You can then promote your writings and photographs through your social media pages to create a brand for yourself.
These are fun ways to create a fan base as well. You just never know! Some of the website templates that you can try are:
- AweSplash
- TravelAir
- wix.com
Another way to publish writings is by creating a blog. You can create a blog through the below platforms:
- WordPress
- Blogger
- weebly.com
- squarespace.com
- Get a Job
Nothing gives a better stage to learn than getting a job. This is a good way to earn some pocket money but the experience will help you in managing time, understand your future job prospects, especially if you would like to get an internship or get a chance to meet people through fun jobs like waitressing in a cafe, helping out at a diner or a fast food outlet. Even something as simple and enjoyable as walking your neighbors’ dogs can add up your dollars. Volunteer work at the hospital or old age retirement homes can also be added in your resume.
2. Beat the heat with Friends

If you want to relax with your friends, then no time is better than the present. With so many different locations to visit in Los Angeles, you would be compelled to make trips and experience the great outdoors. If you are the outdoorsy type, then the following activities could be of interest to you!
- Beaches
Isn’t this an all-time favorite? The only way to beat the heat is to cool it off at the beaches located in Venice, Malibu, Santa Monica, Hermosa or Manhattan. There are fun activities such as volleyball, cycling, surfing, bodyboarding, etc.
- Organize a Fun Trip
Pack your bags and go on a backpacking trip with your friends. Hire a car and go on road trips. You can do the same if you and your friends have bikes. You can go to rock climbing if that is something that you would like to try. Or trekking or any other activity that makes you stop and smell the roses! Sniff away!
- Visit a museum or a historical site
History can be really fun if you get to see the mementos of the past. How fun is to organize an educational and fun trip like this? Some of the places that you can visit are:
Museums
- Los Angeles County of Museum of Art
- California Science Center
- The Getty
- The Annenberg Space for Photography

Never a dull moment with family! And you can always make your summer break better with the following activities!
- Cookout
Grilled corn on the cob, creamy potato salad or mashed potatoes, bar-be-que lamb or fish with sausages! All the more reason to have a barbecue or cookout with family and help prepare lovely meals.
- Do Some Gardening
If you never had a green thumb, maybe this is the time to get one! Nothing like bonding with family members in the late afternoons and preparing a vegetable or flower garden. Not only will you get to enjoy time with family but also learn about garden preparations and organic farming.
- Binge watch
Not that this isn’t a current favorite of you and your friends but parents also like cozy evenings with their favorite characters on screen. Why not make it a date? Have a few nights in and watch your and your family’s favorite shows. Better still, you can get to know your relatives or neighbors by inviting them for movie nights. A good excuse to get to know the people living around you.
These are the 3 broad categories through which you can enjoy your summer break. Why don’t you tell us about your choice of a break for the summer through the comments section below? Also, do keep a lookout for cool articles like this on Alumni Insider.
